Fun & Funky Pet Themed Mats

Preserving a pawprint of your special cat or dog is easy to do (in most cases) using a stamping ink pad and some embossing powder for a more dramatic effect. | If you choose to add a pawprint to your matted pet photo, it's wise to gather all needed materials beforehand. Remember to have an old towel handy to wipe your pet's feet afterwards, or you may end up with more prints than desired. You should have a stamping ink pad, scrap paper to test the pawprint, and embossing powder if you desire a "raised" effect. Lay out your materials along with the mat, and ensure your pet is in a calm & cooperative mood.
Test one or two pawprints by gently rolling your pet's foot across the stamping ink pad, and pressing it evenly and gently to the scrap paper. When you've established an even transfer, determine where you want to place your pawprint on the matboard and make the final impression. If you want to enhance the print with embossing powder, you'll need to dust the print immediately after it's made. Then, gently tap off any excess powder and slowly pass the mat above a hot plate or stovetop on medium heat watching carefully to remove it as soon as the powder fully melts. You may want to hold the matboard print-side down about 3 or 4 inches above the heat source so it doesn't get scorched. |

| To place your favorite photo in the matting, place a strip of acid-free tape halfway under the top edge of your photo. Now you can hover the matboard above your photo to determine placement, and press it into place easily from above. Turn the mat over and reinforce the initial strip of tape, only securing the top edge to allow your photo to "breathe" with atmospheric changes.
